The Department of Physics focuses on a broad spectrum of research areas encompassing both theoretical and experimental physics. Key research domains include Quantum Materials, High Energy Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics and Photonics, Atomic, Molecular, and Surface Physics, Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, and Biophysics and Biomaterials.

 A team of distinguished faculty members guides students through rigorous academic programs and cutting-edge research projects. The department offers a BTech program in Engineering Physics, BSc-BEd (ITEP) program in Physics, Joint MSc-PhD program and PhD program in Physics, providing various learning and training platforms for students to engage in advanced research and contribute to the field’s development. The department actively seeks interested doctoral and post-doctoral candidates along with students for short and long term projects to do cutting-edge research work in various areas of Physics.
