Dr. Anasuya Roychowdhury is a faculty member in the School of Basic Sciences where she is the Principal Investigator of the Biochemistry and Cell Biology Laboratory.
Dr. Roychowdhury received her M.Sc. and M.Tech. from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan and Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Her M.Tech project under the supervision of Dr. Alok Kumar Datta at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata, inspired her to pursue a career in research. She then moved to United States to carry out her Ph.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, Texas under the guidance of Prof. Wlodek Bujalowski in the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Her study was focussed on ATPase Biochemistry (interaction of DnaB helicase–DnaC protein complex) in DNA replication. She then moved to Boston to carry out her postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Daniel Finley at Harvard Medical School. In her postdoctoral project, she studied the Biochemistry of AAA+ ATPases (Rpt 1-6) and deubiquitinase (DUB) enzyme Ubp6 in proteasome mechanism and function. Dr. Roychowdhury returned to India in 2013 to join IIT Bhubaneswar as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Biosciences in the School of Basic Sciences, and currently serves as an Associate Professor in the same department. Her present research focuses on the regulation and mechanism of the AAA+ ATPase ATAD2 in gastrointestinal (stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal) cancer. She also studies the gut microbiome and probiotic intervention strategies for the prevention of colorectal cancer. Together, her research spans a multidisciplinary arc from Biochemistry to Cell Biology and from Cancer Biology to Microbiology and Bioinformatics.
